South Coast Repertory
In the 2023-24 year, we were able to get over twenty free tickets to see two productions at South Coast Repertory! Our students were invited to see Quixote Nuevo and Prelude to a Kiss: the Musical.
Segerstrom Center for the Arts
Our students were able to visit Segerstrom two times in the 2023-24 school year. In the fall, we took a backstage tour of the facility and got a behind the scenes look at the amazing performance venues. In the spring, we took a field trip to see the musical Beetlejuice!
Festivals/Competitions
Role About Theatre Festival
In the fall, Portola helps to host the Role About Theatre Festival at Woodbridge High School. Our students support the festival by volunteering AND have the opportunity to compete once they are enrolled in Intermediate, Advanced, and Honors level courses.
Spring festivals
In the spring, many different festivals and opportunities open up for our students: Fullerton College Festival, Pomona College Festival, DTASC, and more!
Portola Theatre Events
Program Specific Events
Our theatre board create opportunities for our students to get to know each other, compete in low-stakes activities, and continue learning as artists. This year, students hosted cookie decorating meetings, welcome back picnic/potluck, movie night, and more. Additionally, the board members help to support our Thespian Inductions and Year End Program Awards Evening.
IUSD Theatre Events
All five comprehensive high schools provide opportunities for our students to support each other, network, and learn together. We hosted an IUSD Theatre Bonding event this year, and have previously held a Picnic, Festival, and more!
